This book has a lot going on...the incredible cover is drawn by Neal Adams.  The character which appears on the cover and in the story contained in this issue is a "Swamp Thing-like" character.  Many in the hobby refer to this book as a featuring a "Swamp Thing prototype."  That doesn't make too much sense given that the actual Swamp Thing arrived in House of Secrets #92 before the Phantom Stranger #14 featured the "Spectre of the Stalking Swamp." HOS #92 (1st app of Swamp Thing) was released in July 1971.  Phantom Stranger #14 was released in August 1971.   Both books were written by Len Wein.  Yet another uncannily similar character, Man-Thing from Marvel Comics, made its debut yet one month earlier (June 1971), in Savage Tales Magazine #1.
